A centre for advanced study of Sindhi language, literature, education, art and culture — and the largest gathering of Sindhi memory anywhere in India.

Indian Institute of Sindhology, Adipur–Gandhidham is the premier institute in India for the preservation of Sindhi culture.

From its inception it has worked to become a centre for the advanced study of Sindhi language and culture. Several symposia were held with the active participation of well-known scholars, writers and educationists of the Sindhi language.

Origin

The Indian Institute of Sindhology is a centre for advanced study and research in fields related to Sindhi language, literature, education, art and culture. Its primary aim is to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Sindhi community, and to ensure its continuity by carrying it to the younger generation.

Aim & objectives

  1. ۱01 Promote Sindhi Language by conducting classes, preparing teaching material.
  2. ۲02 Develop a Reference Library by collecting and preserving manuscripts, historical documents and rare books, to facilitate advanced study and research in Sindhi language, literature, art and culture.
  3. ۳03 Preserve Vocal Culture through music, dance and drama, and encourage the younger generation to take part in cultural activity.
  4. ۴04 Collect and collate Folklore to preserve the cultural, social and historical information held in folk songs and folk tales.
  5. ۵05 Organise Seminars and Symposia workshops and conferences, bringing scholars, writers and artists onto a common platform to interact and share their views.
  6. ۶06 Prepare Dictionaries and Encyclopaedia to preserve the present form of the language, and computerise all information relating to Sindh and Sindhis for future reference and retrieval.
  7. ۷07 Translate significant Sindhi works into English and other Indian languages, to acquaint other communities in India and abroad with Sindhi literature and culture.
  8. ۸08 Conduct field surveys and research projects on the socio-linguistic and educational life of the community, so that data and conclusions are available for planning.
  9. ۹09 Publish books and periodicals including research papers and the proceedings of seminars.
  10. ۱۰10 Strengthen the Institute’s presence in India and abroad, fostering cultural unity and preserving the rich heritage of the Sindhi community.
